Being gay is in your genes, say scientists in controversial new DNA study

Being gay could be in the DNA.

Scientists have found two stretches of DNA linked to homosexuality in men.

The confirmation of the existence of a ‘gay gene’ or genes will strengthen arguments that homosexuality is a matter of biology, rather than choice.

However, it also raises the prospect of a genetic test that could be used by insurance companies to discriminate against clients or by pregnant women to abort gay babies.

In the study, Chicago University researchers analysed the DNA of more than 400 pairs of gay brothers, recruited at Gay Pride festivals at marches over several years.

Amb. Bianca Ojukwu finally breaks silence

Ambassador Bianca Ojukwu has broken her silence on the Femi Fani Kayode issue which generated a lot of controversy last year. The former Aviation minister and All Progressives Congress leader stirred the hornet’s nest after he defended his affinity for Ndigbo by saying he had a long standing intimate relationship with Bianca Onoh. onoh being her maiden name before she married the late Ikemba.

In an interview with News of The World, she addressed many issues including the Fani-Kayode allegation which she said was the figment of his imagination.

An excerpt:

Last year, Femi Fani-Kayode the former Aviation Minister came out with a bomb- shell that he had a long standing intimate relationship with you. It became a fodder for both the mainstream and social media. Apart from the statement that your attorney put out, you have not come out to openly speak about the issue. What really happened? Did you have an intimate relationship with Femi Fani- Kayode?
Her Excellency, Mrs. Bianca Ojukwu:
When I came back from Spain and I realized what extent the issue had snow- balled, I had to contact my lawyer with a firm instruction that he should demand an immediate retraction from Mr. Femi Fani-Kayode. But let me say this: this was a figment of Mr. Fani Kayode’s imagination. If you said you had a relationship with someone, intimate and long standing as he claimed he had with me, the least you should have is a picture. An intimate and long standing relationship as he claimed he had with me, connotes that you should have some form of evidence, pictures taken at a public function- a birthday party…a relationship such as he purports he had with me, is not some- thing you hide, yet there is nothing to show he ever met me, not to talk of having a relationship of the manner he claims with me.. The guy obviously needs help and he appears to have serious challenges. He knew he was lying that’s why he approached a number of influential Nigerians to beg me, that he didn’t mean to say he had a relationship of such nature with me, I mean the guy really needs help.
But Femi has been strident and actually asserted that he has the evidence to back up his claims and would tender such, at the court of law.
Her Excellency, Mrs. Bianca Ojukwu:
You know what-you don’t need to go to court to show such evidence, especially for someone who, obviously does not have the patience to wait to show the world he is right in his assertion. My challenge to him is simple: if you had such evidence, show it immediately. I don’t know this guy, and deep in his heart, he knows that he is lying. Quite a number of influential Nigerians have called to apologize on his behalf- he had gone to them and asked them to intervene on his be- half. Also another critical aspect of his lies is that within the time frame he claimed the relationship took place, I was in a boarding school in England, and by the time I left the boarding school and came to Cambridge, my sister had passed on in an air crash, in Enugu and I had to come back to Nigeria, so basically the time frame is wrong and he can’t even defend that time frame, so I wonder how he could create such a fiction, when he absolutely knows such did not happen. But in any case, if you had a relationship, intimate and longstanding as he claims I challenge him to bring the evidence- I mean I have pictures from my childhood days, I have pictures of people I knew back then, and where is his evidence? He needs help.

Irish women are among some of the best looking in the world, according to the latest ranking by an international dating website.

Females from Ireland jumped into the top ten of the planet's best-looking nationalities status by the dating website BeautifulPeople.com.

Despite the success of Irish females, Irish men were ranked as the globe's third ugliest.

A mere 12 percent of Irish men who applied to join the dating site had their profiles accepted last year, CorkNews.ie reports.

To gain entry to the club a potential member applies with a photo and a brief profile. Over 48 hours, existing members of the opposite sex vote whether or not to admit them into their exclusive fold. Options are 'Yes definitely', 'Hmm yes, O.K', 'Hmm no, not really' and 'NO Definitely NOT'.

In some slight consolation, Irish men have improved in recent years since they were ranked as the world’s ugliest in 2011.

Swedish men were ranked the most handsome at 65 percent, followed by Brazil at 42 percent and Denmark at 40 percent.

Irish lads also beat their British and Polish counterparts on the dating site where only 9 percent of men managed to get a spot on the dating website.

Greg Hodge, managing director of BeautifulPeople.com said: "Irish women have had the biggest move up the rankings, going from 14th place at 19% accepted in 2011 to a very impressive tenth place, at 23%, last year.

He added: "Although Irish men are still represented as the third ugliest country in the world for men, the fact that they come in above their English counterparts does offer a small consolation."

Christians and the ‘Islamization’ agenda in Osun

My opinion is that even if this is not the major thing we require from government at the moment, it does not mean we should discredit the attempt of the government to do something noble for us and also discredit the claim that the Christians in the state are not important.

For the sake of those who are quick to criticize and call people names before authenticating what is written, let me stress that I am writing this article as an intermediary between the government of Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola and Christians in the State of Osun who have been unhappy that Christianity seems to have been relegated in favour of the other religions.

This article becomes more necessary at this point because of the proposed inter-denominational worship centre to be built by the government of the State of Osun and the criticisms that have trailed the project, notably from a prominent politician and some Christians in the state. The centre, to be named ‘Open Heaven Worship Centre,’ would be sited at both Odo Iju and Ibodi communities in Atakumosa West Local Government.

I believe that the agitation of the Christian community and their leadership in the state for some time now, most notably through the Christian Association of Nigeria, especially after the implementation of the school reclassification policy by the government isn’t to antagonise the government, but to advocate for a fair treatment of Christians in the state since government is for everybody and for all religions.

It is for this same reason that I would like to advise Christians not to play into the hands of some ignorant people who want to use religion as a tool for politics by claiming that the state government plans to Islamize the state and that’s why Christianity has been relegated to the background. It is our right as the governed in the state to ask the government to explain the conditions for the controversial Sukuk Bond, but never a reason for us to assume that it is this bond that the government will use to Islamize the state.

There is more to Sukuk than we know, and I’ll just advise that we should take time to research why the United Kingdom has allowed Sukuk and South Africa is also planning to, before some people capitalize on our ignorance to tell us what is not about the bond. We must learn to fight from an informed perspective, so we don’t fight what we ought not to fight.

It becomes more surprising and ironical to know that some of these elements who allege that the state is being Islamized are the same ones castigating the government for choosing to build the inter-denominational worship centre for Christians. They claim it is an attempt by the government to loot the treasury of the state, and some even claim that’s not what Christians in the state need at the moment. It may be true or false that it’s not what the Christians in the state need, but what then does the Christian community want?

My opinion is that even if this is not the major thing we require from government at the moment, it does not mean we should discredit the attempt of the government to do something noble for us and also discredit the claim that the Christians in the state are not important.

I believe it is an olive branch from the government that we should accept and use as a foundation to wisely present some of our yearnings to the state government. One of the reasonable agitations I know of is the call to have a Pentecost Day on June 9, 2014 that will be recognized by the government and declared a public holiday.

Since this government assumed office, it has recognized and declared holidays for Hijrah (the commencement of the Muslim calendar year) and also Isese Day for traditional worshippers. I believe it is not too much if we also ask the government to set a day aside to celebrate what is regarded as the start of the new life that Christians enjoy, the 50th day after the resurrection of Jesus, and the day the Holy Spirit was poured out on God’s people.

The concept of the Pentecost Day is a means of complementing the Omoluabi concept of the state government because anyone who can successfully make use of the fruit of the Spirit will definitely live the life that is expected of an Omoluabi. The fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, forbearance, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control, and there’s no better way to live by the Omoluabi creed than to have all these qualities embedded in a man.

As I conclude, I would implore that as Christians, we should be able to discourage those who want to use the name of Christians to score cheap political points, and those who want to ignite the fire of religious intolerance in our state. We are brothers and sisters, and there will be times that we may disagree on certain issues, it does not mean we should not be able to sit on a table and iron it out.

Christians have always been peace loving people and not known to be violent, especially in a peaceful state like the State of Osun. Therefore if we have issues with some policies and we voice our discontent, some people should not see it as antagonism towards government, but an effort to ensure that the government succeeds the more by ensuring that our interest are not discountenanced.

Government on its part should be more careful whenever policies that may affect some religious interests are to be made, and they should make it a duty to consult widely with all religious leaders so that some opportunists will not use that as a means of sowing a seed of discord among the various religions in the state and by extension, Nigeria. Christians, Muslims and other kinds of religious faithfuls voted for the government of the day. Therefore, the government owes every religion a duty to listen to them and do all to take care of their interests as long as those interests aren’t against the progress of the state.

We are partners in progress and we should continue to see ourselves like that. The motive may not be to start a religious crisis, but government and the religious bodies may unintentionally start that when they don’t weigh the consequences of their actions and statements. I believe every responsible leader will want peace to reign, and our religious leaders are responsible men and women, and our governor is also a responsible man leading a responsible team of men and women.

We are not trouble makers, but peace makers.

When I wake up, I check for the mails I have and reply the ones that need to be replied. I organise my day and check for meetings that I have as meetings can be fixed at any time in the entertainment industry. If I don’t have a busy day, I hang out with friends especially on Wednesdays. I spend about two hours with them, from 10pm till 12am. When I am done, I head to the studio to listen to new music by my artiste. From there I head home to keep in touch with my siblings who are based in Dubai or any of my family members, then I retire for the day.
